WHY BUY A 3D PRINTER 2021?

If you do not know where to buy a 3D printer at a good price, today there are many platforms or web portals that offer this type of product since it is a niche that is booming, but the truth is that not all of them offer the same guarantees , prices or variety of products.

In addition to Amazon, you can find 3D printers on Chinese websites such as Aliexpress and Gearbest among others. On this website I have chosen to offer you a classification of the best-selling and best-valued 3D printers on Amazon, since, from my point of view, it is where they offer the best guarantees, have very competitive prices and also have a very fast home delivery , with excellent customer support. In general, they offer 3D printers with a good value for money.

Despite the fact that it is increasingly common to make purchases online, many people still do not trust this form of purchase. But the truth is that knowing that from where you buy they make sure that the products arrive in good condition and within the expected deadlines, transmits peace of mind.

WHAT TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE CHOOSING A 3D PRINTER 2021?

If you are thinking of taking advantage of your creativity and the advantages of 3D printers and you do not know very well what you should take into account to choose the one that best suits your needs, it is important that you ask yourself the following questions:

What kind of material do you want to print?

Depending on what type of objects you want to print, you will have to use a certain type of material. You will have to check if the printer you want to buy is compatible with that type of material. All the recommended 3D printers in this analysis you will be able to see what type of materials are capable of printing.

If you are going to make model- type objects or medium-sized objects , the use of printers that use PLA material is recommended  . (It is a plastic material used by Molten Material Arrangement – FDM printers). Unlike ABS material, PLA is not as rigid, but it is biodegradable.

For objects that are more functional or require greater mechanical stress , ABS is recommended . (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Stirene). It is a plastic that is commonly used as a material for 3D printing. It is widely used due to its good characteristics (it melts easily and is a hard and rigid material). But on the downside, it is not a biodegradable material.

To manufacture objects in greater detail, it is recommended to use RESIN 3d printers . Liquid that is used for SLA type printers and that solidifies when a laser hits it).

If you still don’t have material to print, here you will find the most used in the world of 3D printing.

Professional, home or educational use?

The best 3D printer does not exist, since depending on whether you want to give it a professional, domestic, educational use or if you want a 3D printer for children, you will need a printer with certain characteristics, more complex or a simpler one. In this case you will have to look at:

Home use: I recommend you buy a silent 3D printer and that it is not a very large model, nor that it is very dirty. In this article you will find several options of 3d printers for home.

Educational use: That it is a closed 3D printer to avoid manipulation and that it does not use toxic material, as is the case with « Da Vinci Mini W «. Another interesting educational 3D design option is the use of 3D pens.

Professional use: That it is a large format printer, with a higher volume of printing and that has certain functions, such as resuming printing in case of power failure.

 Is the print volume important?

The printing volume is the maximum size that our 3D printer can print.

As a general rule, the more print volume, the more expensive the printer will cost you. Machines with a larger dimension will have a greater volume of printing, but you have to be clear that the greater volume of printing your printer has, the longer it will take to make your 3D design.

In general, if what you want is, above all, to print large pieces, it is advisable that the printing base does not have an area less than 20 x 20 centimeters. If you don’t want to make very large pieces, any printer over 15 x 15 centimeters will do. If you prefer to print larger designs, I recommend that you opt for printers like Ender 5 or Geeetech Prusa i3.

What type of user are you? Attention to assembly

Do you care a lot about mounting the printer? You are going to find printers that require from 7-8 hours to assemble, to printers that in just 10 minutes you can use.

Depending on whether this factor is important to you, you will have to buy one printer or another, since there are printers that you will have to assemble piece by piece and even program them, (as is the case with the Prusa i3 model) and others that are practically assembled or require a easier assembly (Ender-3).

Therefore we can distinguish two types of printers:

  • DIY (Do it yourself): you will have to assemble it piece by piece. This type of printer is easier to add improvements and update them. Ideal for “makers”.
  • PLUG & PLAY 3D printer: Printers that come assembled. They are usually more expensive.

3D printer 2021 price

For many people the budget is an important factor. You can find printers with prices from 100 dollars to more than 1,000 dollars.

But generally, nowadays you can find a 3D printer with a good value for money in the range of 200-600 dollars that perfectly suits your needs and that performs its function excellently.

Do I need 3D design knowledge to use a 3D printer?

You do not need to have knowledge of 3D design to be able to use a 3D printer since there are quite simple to use and intuitive models. Although if you have this type of knowledge you will be able to get more out of your printer. But today, thanks to the Internet, there are web pages that offer you huge catalogs of 3D designs where you can find everything.

HOW TO USE A 3D PRINTER?

Each printer has its own instruction manual but, in general terms, it is as follows:

Normally, we will download a program called CURA , which is the software used by most 3D printers, or another with a similar characteristic on the computer where we will configure the printing options.

We will create the 3D model that we want to print (we can create it ourselves from the aforementioned program by computer or download it from the network where we can find designs from other users) and transfer it to an SD card.

We will introduce the filament through the extruder of the 3D printer. Once it has warmed up and reached about 200 degrees it will start to come out of the nozzle (depending on the printing speed, our design will print with higher or lower quality). The lower the speed, the higher the quality of our figure.

We will turn on the printer and insert the SD card with the GCODE that we have introduced before, we will look for the part on the printer’s LCD screen and press Print. It only remains to wait for it to print correctly.

FILAMENT : This is the type of material used in molten material arrangement printers. There are many varieties of filaments and in general it is usually supplied in spools (supports where the filament is wound).

PLA : Plastic material used by Molten Material Arrangement (FDM) printers. Unlike ABS material, PLA is not as rigid, but it is biodegradable.

FILAFLEX: It is a type of flexible filament, which can be deformed and return to its initial position.

RESIN : It is a liquid that is used for SLA-type printers (it solidifies when a laser hits it).

COMPONENTS

PRINTING BASE: Smooth and level surface used as the starting point for prints, on which the first layer of filament is deposited.

NOZZLE OR NOZZLE: Metal tip where the melted material comes out that defines the thickness of the filament thread that is deposited.

HOT BED: It is a plate that is placed on top of the printing area and is characterized by allowing the base to be heated to a temperature that is considered appropriate (generally around 80 degrees). Thanks to the heated bed we will ensure that our piece does not deform during printing.

BELT: It is used to transfer the turns of the motors to the shafts and moving parts (through pulleys).

EXTRUDER : It is an element of the FDM printers. Its function is to eject the filament to make it go through the HOTEND.

HOTEND / FUSOR: It is the component of the printer that is attached to the nozzle that heats the filament to its melting point (between 200 ℃ and 300 ℃)

CURA: It is a software that is responsible for converting STL files to the GCODE format used by the printer’s electronics. (It will allow to modify printing parameters and view the piece)

SLT : It allows to pass or store our 3D designs between different programs.

TECHNIQUE

BRIM : It is a technique that consists of adding flat surfaces attached to the perimeter of our design in those problem areas, thus improving adherence to the base.

FDM: Printing technique that consists of depositing different layers of molten material superimposed on each other.

SLA: Printing technique that consists of solidifying the resin using a laser light .

OTHERS

CARTESIAN PRINTER: Type of FDM printer that moves based on 3 coordinate axes and moves between them to print.

DELTA PRINTER: Type of FDM printer that moves the extruder through 3 arms on the base.

PRINT VOLUME: Maximum size that a 3D printer can print.
